Let me preface this answer with two points
1. I support Palestine & Palestinian struggles for autonomy and reclamation of the occupied territory
2. I oppose the colonialist, imperialist state of Israel that has stolen land with help from the Western powers.
There is a lot of antisemitism in antizionist circles, because antizionism is very broad, and does not include support for Palestine or Palestinian people or their struggles against the apartheid state of Israel.
This antisemitism is a problem but it is not coming from Palestinian people, or Arab people, or Middle-Eastern people or West Asian people.
The largest sources of antisemitism in antizionism/anti-Israel circles comes from white pseudo-leftists, Neo-Nazis, white conspiracy theorists, white liberals etc etc.
Sense a pattern there?
Many of these camps don’t care about Palestine, they just hate Jewish people enough that they hate Israel because to them it is a Jewish state first & foremost, before it is an imperialist state, if they bother to carry on beyond their antisemitic situation
Because antizionism is not pro-Palestine/pro-Palestinian, you will find racists & antisemites being anti-Israel, and then supporters of Israel will latch on to these examples and use them to deflect conversations about Palestine & Israel by saying that if you oppose Israel and support Palestine you must be antizionist and antisemitic like those people over there.
Now, I don’t think it’s necessary to get into zionism or what it is, because there’s a lot of different definitions, with some anti-Israeli Jewish people saying that zionism is about Jewish self-determination, not establishing a racist state.
Instead, let us approach Israel the same way we approach any other settler-based colonialist state.
Because, despite their Jewish identity, the founders of Israel were still white colonialist Europeans. They stole land from the indigenous population, engaged in genocide against them, broke treaties with them, placed them in open-air prisons, systematically discriminate and oppress them, and continue to do so.
I don’t know or care where zionism fits into this, because whether or not this is what zionism intended or opposed does not matter. What matters is that Israel is an illegitimate colonialist state. It is an apartheid state. It is anti-black, anti-Palestinian, anti-Muslim, anti-Arab. It follows in the footsteps of the English settlers who stole North America, of the Iberian settlers who stole Mesoamerica & South America, following them rank & file into committing atrocities against indigenous populations.
Now with the more recent influx of African immigrants, Israel can also engage in stringent anti-blackness just like their spiritual predecessors.
Bottom line, Zionism doesn’t really matter in the context of opposing Israel and supporting Palestine.
I’m no Zionist, but it seems like there’s something being left out here. Something that happened to the Jews that maybe’s not mentioned here. Something that maybe would explain a lot of this Mayyyyyybeeeee???
